Lodging & Travel for the CSAP American Politics Conference on May 29-30, 2025

We look forward to hosting our invited guests at the CSAP American Politics Conference being sponsored by the Yale Center for the Study of American Politics at ISPS on Thursday and Friday, May 29-30, 2025.  We hope you find the following information helpful in planning your trip to New Haven.

Authors presenting papers and graduate students presenting poster projects will receive funding assistance for travel to the conference.  Other attendees are responsible for covering the cost of travel to and from the conference, but CSAP will be covering the cost of lodging and meals during the conference.

If you have questions about travel and/or lodging for this conference, please contact Pamela Greene by email or by phone at 203-432-3052.

VENUE & LODGING:

The conference will be held on the Yale University campus at the Institution for Social and Policy Studies (ISPS) located at 77 Prospect Street, New Haven, CT.

Out-of-town guests will be housed at The Study at Yale Hotel located at 1157 Chapel Street in downtown New Haven within walking distance of Yale and ISPS (approximately 15-16 minutes).

TRAVELING TO NEW HAVEN

Please note that New Haven is not the easiest place to get to by air.  If you have any questions about the best airport to fly into or about connecting ground transportation, please reach out to a member of the ISPS staff for suggestions.

Air Travel

New Haven is in proximity to five area airports:

Connecting Ground Transportation

If you are flying into Tweed New Haven Airport or taking a train into New Haven Union Station, you will find a queue of taxis waiting just outside to take you to your hotel or to the Yale campus (approximately 10 minutes from Union Station or 15 minutes from Tweed Airport).  You can also order a rideshare like Uber or Lyft if you prefer.

If you are flying into Bradley International Airport (BDL), we suggest a taxi or rideshare service (e.g., Uber or Lyft) for the estimated one-hour trip from Bradley to New Haven.  However, if you are not comfortable with using a rideshare service, or if you have a flight arriving late at night or departing very early in the morning, please ask us about other private car service options for connecting ground transportation.  Car rental is also possible with advance approval.

If you are flying into Newark International Airport (EWR), the airport has a direct connection to Amtrak rail service traveling to New Haven Union Station.  Please leave ample time when scheduling connecting flights and trains.

If you are flying into one of the New York City airports (LaGuardia Airport/LGA or Kennedy Airport/JFK), private car service is available from New York to New Haven at a cost of around $250-$300 each way.  Providers include: Hy’s Limousine, Serlin International Limousine, and Anton Limo.

Other options include:

  • Taking a taxi to either Grand Central Terminal (commuter service on Metro-North Railroad) or to Penn Station (Amtrak) and catching a train to New Haven.
  • Shared shuttle services such as GO Airport Shuttle or Red Dot Airport Shuttle. (Be aware that shared shuttle rides will have multiple stops for multiple passengers and could take extra time.)
  • Car rental

Train Travel

Amtrak (1-800-USA-RAIL / 1-800-872-7245) is available to New Haven Union Station along the northeast corridor from Boston, New York (Penn Station) or Washington, DC (and points in between).  Taxi service is always available outside the station and it’s about a 10 minute ride to the Yale campus or to the conference hotel.

Metro North Railroad (1-800-638-7646) provides more frequent commuter train service between Grand Central Terminal in New York City and Union Station in New Haven.  Call or visit the Metro-North schedule website for times and fares.

By Car

If traveling by car, hotel parking will be covered by CSAP, and we recommend that you leave your car at the hotel rather than try to park on campus near ISPS.  Valet parking is available when you pull up in front of The Study at Yale Hotel, 1157 Chapel Street in New Haven, CT.

Local Ground Transportation

If you are arriving locally into Tweed New Haven Airport or New Haven Union Train Station, you will find a queue of taxis outside to provide transportation to the conference hotel or to the Yale campus.  For transportation between the hotel and Yale campus or back to Tweed Airport/Union Train Station, you have the following options:

  • M7 Taxi (203-777-7777)  Local taxi service; call at least 20 minutes before your pick-up time.
  • Uber and/or LYFT are available and reliable if you have an account.

Walking between the hotel and conference site is also an option if the weather is nice.  The Study at Yale Hotel is a 15 minute walk from ISPS, 77 Prospect Street (about 0.7 of a mile).  Link here for walking directions.

Meals

CSAP will provide meals during the conference, including:

  • Lunch and dinner on Thursday, May 29.
  • Breakfast and lunch on Friday, May 30.

Please check the conference schedule for details.
