CSAP Director Alan Gerber has been reappointed as the dean of social sciences for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) at Yale University. His reappointment is for a term of five years effective July 1, 2019.
During Gerber’s first term as dean, he has made significant contributions in revising policies for FAS Tenure and Appointments, transitioning the Department of Statistics to the Department of Statistics and Data Science, chairing the provost’s University-Wide Committee on Data-Intensive Social Science, and facilitating numerous collaborations across departments. Gerber has also continued his own research focusing on how evidence is used in decision making and public policy development, and on applying experimental and other statistical methods to study political behavior. During this period, he has published more than 20 papers and an award-winning book, Unhealthy Politics: The Battle over Evidence-Based Medicine (Princeton University Press, 2018).
